Happy New Year
As we begin 2023, Kel-Mac is revving up to plan activities for the new year. There is a trail rider's meeting at Sharon Wood's house on Jan 8th. At this meeting, the camping trips and day rides for the year are planned. Join us and give your input.

The officers and show committee will meet before the January regular meeting to discuss plans for the horse shows and other events. How about a couple more "Meet and Greets "?
If you have suggestions for speakers or topics you’d like to hear about at our meetings, please attend the January meeting. We need your input! We will meet on Tuesday, Jan 17 at 7pm at the Watkinsville Library.
Finally, I would like to thank Susan McCullar for serving as president of Kel-Mac in 2022. It was a critical year for the Club, and Susan guided us to a successful year. To all the officers willing to serve in 2023, a big thank you!

Vice Presidents Report, by Lisa Williamson
The 2022 Kel-Mac Awards Banquet was held at the spacious new UGA Veterinary Medical Education Center on December 3rd. The Veterinary College Leadership graciously allowed us to use the facility at no cost other than a clean up fee. Susan McCullar brought beautiful green table coverings, and members decorated the tables with horse and Christmas-themed ornaments. Many thanks to Susan McCullar, our 2022 president, for arranging the food (including 2 lovely sheet cakes), drinks, plates, and silverware. Tony McCullar was very kind to pick up dinner from Mama's Boy and deliver it to us. Katie Williams developed a colorful presentation of gorgeous photos she took at our 2022 shows. Thank you Katie! The show was displayed on large screens in the front of the room while attendees enjoyed dinner. The awards presentation, organized by Susie Cottongim, Valerie Puryear, and Rosemary Vogel, followed dinner. The new presentation format streamlined this part of the program. Wonderful door prizes were given out during the program. Thanks to Valerie who purchased many of the door prizes, and to Jim Cumming, who facilitated donations of horse feed from Godfrey's Feed in Madison, Georgia.

A silent auction was set up at the banquet. It generated funds to horses rescued by GERL.

Short and Sweet
Susie Cottongim, Show Chairperson

Let's kick this can of a year to the curb! This was a tough year for many for all kinds of reasons. Hopefully, the shows offered a fun day for all who rode, spectated or volunteered. Thank you to all who worked to make the shows a success.
Looking forward to next year and new experiences ( warmer weather too).
Happy New Year!

Heritage Park Update, by Jeanne Barsanti

Eleagnus Removal

On Tuesday December 6, we had 5 hard workers, Dayle Faulkner, Amy Rosen, Cindy Pritchard, and Joe, a retired forester and me. Although we were few in number, we destroyed a fair number of plants. Unfortunately, the work date for December 20 had to be cancelled due to cold and rain. Our dates in January are Tuesdays Jan 3 and 31, and Monday, Jan 16 (MLK Day of service). Work days in February are Tuesday February 7 and Monday Feb 20 (school holiday). Only 5 work days left. If you can help, it is very much appreciated. Although we have made good progress with removal of this terrible invasive, there is still lots to kill. Killing the plant involves cutting it close to the ground and spraying it within 15 seconds. It does not need to be dug up which makes the work easier.
