Elizabeth will go over how to approach various obstacles, and what the judge is looking for when evaluating the horse and handler. August Kel-Mac Meeting, by Lisa Williamson
We are fortunate to have Mark Jones (True Partner Saddlery, Canton, Georgia) as our speaker on August 20th. We are working on securing a location where it's easy to get trailers in and out, and where there's room for our meeting. Mark saw the need for saddles that fit horses and their riders, and has been honing his craft for years. His team builds endurance and western saddles, but Mark can also help assess fit on English saddles. He uses the Dennis Lane System to measure the horse's back proportions, and then has a custom tree built to those specifications. Mark built a saddle for my hard-to-fit roan mare, and built saddles for a few other folks' horses in our Club. The saddles are beautiful, functional, comfortable, and reasonably priced.
Mark will demonstrate the saddle fitting process at our August Meeting. He is willing to come for a half day (maybe longer?) to offer free saddle fit evaluations. Each evaluation takes 20-30 minutes. You are not expected to buy a saddle, but its an opportunity to explore the option, and to discuss using shims to help improve fit of your current saddle (if needed). Kel-Mac Members have first choice for tie slots, and then I'll open slots up to the rest of the Athens Horse Community, depending on interest. Contact me at [email protected] if you would like to have a time slot on on Tuesday, August 20th with Mark for a saddle fitting.
